Torfinn Hoffart started to play the piano, but after a few years he saw the cellists in the local orchestra and then he was sold. Cello was the only instrument for him. His father, who is singing in the choir Collegium Vocale, and his mother which also was passionately angaged in music inspired all their four children to practice. This resulted in two professional violinsits and two cellists. Torfinn started to study with Geir Tore Larsen at the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Later he studied with Aage Kvalbein at Oslo University where he took the master degree. He has been joining lots of tours. Among them is may be the opera-tour to Kairo and Eritrea the most remarcable. Together with Bergen opera he did "Porgy and Bess" at the Kairo Opera House and the opera-house in Asmara. He has also conducted different youth - orchestras. In 1998 he was the leading conductor in "Intarnational Music meeting 1998" in Padua, Italia where the Norwegian youth orchestra and Orchestra Giovanile del Veneto played together. After freelancing in different orchestras he specialized in methods of teaching an he is now teaching cello- and orchestradidactics at the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Beside all this he has studied Market Oriented Management-program at the Norwegian school of Management BI- Executive School. This is a part of a master degree of Management. From 01.08.2003 he works as head of the Music school departement at Barratt Due institute of music . From 01.01.2006 he also is the head of Valdres sommersymfoni. From 01.01.2007 he is coordinator of all concerts at Barratt Due institute of music. He also is the Leader of the company Musica Synergy ltd. The goal of this company is to make synergies between different musicians and styles. |
